The scope of the Foundation’s interests are outlined in the Memorandum of Association governing its administration.


The Foundation’s Memorandum of Association details the following objectives:

  • To accumulate and administer funds that are to be used to develop the theoretical knowledge, practical skills and professional ethics of interior decorators and designers, to promote public and professional interest in, and awareness of, the principles and value of interior decorating and design, to encourage the study, training and development of future professional interior decorators and designers and to encourage research into and development of new techniques, methods and practices of interior decoration and design, in particular in relation to matters of residential design.
  • To advance the standards of interior design and decoration and to promote educational programmes with a view to improving the profession of interior design and decoration.
  • To take part in, carry on, develop, encourage, stimulate, promote and aid study in the profession of interior design and decoration and in any field of human endeavour connected with interior design and decoration with the purpose of improving the practice of the profession of interior design and decoration.
  • To stimulate public and professional interest in the profession of interior design and decoration in any way and to assist in keeping interior designers and decorators in Australia up-to-date in the latest developments throughout the world in the practice of the profession.
  • To promote the teaching of interior design and decoration by securing the improvement of facilities to teach them in schools, technical colleges, universities and other educational institutions.
  • To arrange for advanced training and teaching in the profession of interior design and decoration in educational institutions and to provide for the holding of classes, lectures and meetings and other means of instructing members and others in the profession of interior design and decoration
  • To encourage and assist and arrange for interior designers and decorators, students and others to come to Australia for the purpose of teaching and demonstrating modern-day theory and practice relating to the profession of interior design,
  • To encourage, assist and arrange for interior designers and decorators, students and others to travel abroad and engage in study and training and to gain experience in modern practices connected with the profession of interior design and decoration.
  • To encourage, arrange for and assist students and others from Australia and abroad to undertake study in the profession of interior design and decoration.
  • To bring together the interior designers and decorators of Australia and New Zealand and other parts of the world for discussion and demonstration of subjects in any way related to the practice of their profession.
  • To arrange or provide monetary assistance for and establish scholarships and make donations to students, interior designers and decorators and other persons for study or for teaching and demonstrating professional skill in and knowledge of the profession of interior design and decoration.
